Upper West kills it again with the their latest track and first single off their debut mix-tape
West Side Stories What We Do. They're largely keeping to the style they're know for, smooth electric beats and fast paced lyrics. The violin sample in the background is an added bonus. I remember meeting Jack back in 9th grade, I can't remember for sure, but I'm willing to bet he was wearing a Grateful Dead shirt under a long sleeves plaid shirt. I felt he had the whole guitarist look going on and I was right, he was a great guitarist and hes only been getting better since. He's finally started recording some of his own tracks. He's already got four tracks up on myspace and while he would recommend smoking fire, I would say Silence is my fav. It's just so calming. What can I say, I think all his guitar melodies are great, but I'm always a sucker for lyrics. Plus, his voice goes along great with the guitar.

Out of my friends, Dan always knew good rap music. Now, he makes good rap music. As OMMETIS, Dan lays down his smooth yet deep flow with a typically dark or jazzy beat. It fucking works. He recently dropped one of his bigger projects 'Me, Myself and Humanity' and its a solid piece of work. I've been following his songs for some time now and there's no doubt; he's getting better and better, and he's on his way up. This guy is dedicated. Less than two days after receiving positive ratings on his mixtape he already whooped out another thank you song for his fans. Keep track of this kid, he's about to become something. Hoodie Allen. There's only so much I can say about this guy. He's truly gifted as a rapper. His witty lines and flows completes the missing pieces in the rap game. I first listened to his songs in his mixtape Pep Rally and was simply stunned. I really was obsessed with "You Are Not A Robot". But I need not say I was obsessed with the whole mixtape. So genuine and you can see how much effort and heart he's put in it.

And on July 26, 2011 Hoodie releases his new mixtape "Leap Year". I must say that this guy hasn't failed to delight my ears once again. Does that sound gay? HAHA! Yeah but check out one of my favorites from Leap Year and you'll also love it.
This is the type of rap I like. A chilled out melody, with some quality lines to go with it. Not to sound cliché, but this song really makes you feel like your floating along some clouds. This guy has been known to perfect the genre known as hipster rap, and I hope you like it too. Enjoy "Kiss the Sky", and one of his more upbeat hits after the jump.
The scene is booming with great new acts who are full of creativty, but then there's those that throw it in the air and change the game. I'm talking, of course, about artists like Upper West. Upper West is made up of Doug Gleicher (aka Dougie) and Jesse Fink (aka JFink), these two guys from New York are unsigned, but making some real noise. Upper West specialize in sick beats, the right samples and clever, upbeat lyrics. To top it off, this guy's voice is so suave, I mean just real smooth, you can't help but appreciate. When I first heard this guy I was really amazed with his flow and rhythm and how awesome his voice just pairs in with the beats and music. Now I find myself listening to this guy everyday on my iPod. Must admit that I rap along with him while listening and I just feel like a boss. This guy has swag.
And then again I wonder why this guy isn't so famous yet. He's doing everything right, like he doesn't have a single song that I don't like, it's crazy. Trust my word, this dude is gonna blow up and it's worth tracking him on his way to fame.
A good kid with ambition. I would like to introduce my good friend A2Z, a promising young fellow from Meredith, New Hampshire. When I first watched his music video I found my self jamming to it like the guy at 2:04. I really dig his flow and lyrics. Don't wanna sound like a phony or anything but like he said, all we hear about is the money, bitches, bling and shit on the radio. We need to stay true, and once this guy goes big, I'm sure he will.

Recent years have been overflowing with mashups created from professionals all the way to amateurs and while artists like Milkman and MashupGermany kill it, there are many more where you can't help but wonder if they even paid attention to what they were doing. I'm glad to say this isn't the case with TGIK. Not only does the guy have a great ear for mashups, but he also does some incredible work with remixes. I'm a sucker for both and I'm definitely a sucker for TGIK. You can tell he pays attention to every detail till the song flows and becomes his own. Below are some of my favorite tracks by him.
Nick Schulte and Paul Mattern started making music in 6th grade. 7 years later, nothing's changed except now they're open to virtually every kind of music. Together they are SireMusic, creators of funky house music, minimal electronic, a lot of death metal, hip-hop, and dubstep. They make whatever they feel like, and it works- they've performed live at different venues in jazz clubs, as a rock band, etc. I'm confident these guys will make their names in the musical world someday. I've know Will Marsh since 8th grade and, even though we've spent much of that time apart, he will always be a part of my wolf pack. He has a great taste in music and puts that to good use by creating some music of his own. His music is a mixture between alternative and folk. Something he likes to call " Sonic Folk". Kind of has nice ring to it.
The Berlin Etc. EP is his debut album inspired by his 2010 stay in Berlin, Germany. I'm sure most of these were inspired by me, but my favorites off his EP are I Don't See You:
